Know Before You Go – June 27th Filing Day

Important Times

Office Hours: 8 AM – 5 PM
Filing Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM*
* There will be NO filings processed prior to 9 AM and NO filings accepted after 5 PM. It is your responsibility arrive with adequate time to fully complete the filing process between 9 AM and 5 PM.

General Reminders

    • Make an appointment: Although walk-in filers will be accepted, having an appointment is the best way to avoid delays while filing and expedite filing. Schedule your appointment by sending a request to
    • Pre-print Nominating Petitions: Having your nominating petition pages already printed by the time you arrive will help staff move you through the process efficiently. Petitions that need to be printed onsite on filing day can be done at a reasonable cost (please note that this will likely take some time if done onsite the day of; you will be unable to continue filing until staff has completed printing).
    • Have all documents ready: Although services will be available to help look up or address missing or incomplete documents, you will be pulled out of the queue while discrepancies are resolved and could experience delays upon reentry.
    • Know your Voter Number: Check the “Find My Registration and Election Information” section of to find your voter number. Having this available will help SOS staff quickly and accurately add you to your contest.
    • Be prepared: Review 2024 General Election Candidate Information | Maggie Toulouse Oliver – New Mexico Secretary of State ( to ensure you have all required forms, know your proper filing day and proper filing officer, and are ready to go.     Important Document Reminders:

    Declaration of Candidacy

    • Review your voter record at and compare it to the information on your Declaration of Candidacy; the information on your Declaration must be identical to your voter registration, pay special attention to the following areas:
      • Name
      • Address
      • Date of Birth
      • Party of Registration
    • Changes to registration must have been made on or before January 29, 2024, pursuant to 1-10-6(A) NMSA 1978.
    • Declaration of Candidacy must be notarized.

    Nominating Petitions

    • Prior to coming in to file, remove all staples, paper clips, post-it notes, or any other foreign material from your petition pages. Failure to do so will result in increased processing times and potentially obscured signatures.

    Affidavit of Designation (if applicable)

    • If you will be designating an individual to file on your behalf, they must bring with them an Affidavit of Designation.
    • Reminder: The designee will NOT be able to make any changes on behalf of the candidate.

    Confidential Public Address Request

    • If you wish to make your address confidential upon filing, please bring this form with you.
    • Should you be qualified, you will remain eligible to have your address designated as confidential until the election.
      • If you win your election, your address will remain confidential for 2 years.
      • If you lose your election, your confidential address designation will be removed.
    • If you are disqualified, your confidential address designation will be removed.
