Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver Releases Statement Following Today’s Successful Congressional District 1 Special Election

Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver released the following statement tonight following the conclusion of voting in the Congressional District 1 special election:

“Today’s successful special election was the result of much planning by staff in my Office, the election administrators and County Clerks that encompass Congressional District 1, and the voters who went out to make their voices heard. Thank you to everyone who participated. In 2018, I advocated for the pro-voter policy of same-day voter registration and this was the first time voters in New Mexico could utilize this essential resource all the way through Election Day at any polling site. This resource will be available to all New Mexico voters on Election Day in every election going forward pending approval from New Mexico’s Voter Systems Certification Committee. Over 2,000 voters used same-day voter registration during the CD1 election. Same-day voter registration is a great resource to widen participation in our elections and implementing it has been a top priority for my Office.”

Unofficial election results from today’s Congressional District 1 special election can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.
