September 15th is National Voter Registration Day

The New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office joins national effort to register voters

Santa Fe – On September 15, 2026, the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office will join thousands across the country in celebration of National Voter Registration Day.

Every eligible citizen should have the option to exercise their right to be heard at the ballot box, and having facilitated more than 6 million voter registrations since its inception, National Voter Registration Day is the perfect day to start getting ready for this year’s election.

“I encourage New Mexicans to talk to their family, friends and neighbors about the importance of making sure they are ready to vote this year,” said Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver.

“We have done a lot of work in recent years to help ensure that every eligible New Mexican can vote through the implementation of initiatives like secure automatic voter registration and same day voter registration. However, even if you are already registered to vote, National Voter Registration Day is a great reminder and opportunity to check to make sure your voter registration details are up to date.”

New Mexicans can register to vote online or check their voter registration status at NMVote.org. The Secretary of State’s website also provides a comprehensive voter registration FAQ page as a resource for voters.

Voters can also use same-day voter registration (SDR) at voting locations throughout the Early Voting period and on Election Day for the 2026 General Election. Please contact your County Clerk for hours of operation and locations or visit NMVote.org.

A FAQ page is also available on our website.
